To support manufacturers, users and procurement bodies of personal protective equipment (PPE), GPQI developed a practical guideline for the CE marking. The publication is a joint effort with the Central Authority for Safety of the German Federal States (Zentralstelle der Länder für Sicherheitstechnik - ZLS) and TÜV Rheinland within the framework of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure.

A passport for goods entering the EU single market

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased demand and supply of PPE worldwide. PPE includes protective masks, face shields and coveralls, among other products. In the fight against the pandemic, functioning global supply chains and international trade are key. With almost 450 million citizens, the demand for PPE in the European Union (EU) is high. To enter the EU’s single market, products must fulfil specific requirements. In the case of PPE, EU legislation requires the affixing of the CE mark. GPQI’s practical guideline clearly defines what CE marking is and how its authenticity can be assessed. It also states the main steps in the process of affixing the CE mark on PPE according to the European Union Regulation 2016/425.

The PPE guide provides concrete information on CE marking

The publication bundles the most important information for manufacturers and procurement bodies of PPE. For example, it addresses the differentiation between PPE and medical products. It also describes the main steps manufactures must follow in the certification process of PPE. For procurement bodies, the guideline ultimately outlines the key steps in checking the authenticity of CE marking.
