On Tuesday 10th June the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation aimed at regulatory harmonisation and the elimination of technical barriers to trade under the framework of the German-Mexican Dialogue on Quality Infrastructure. The session was chaired by Christina Decker, Director-General for Digital and Innovation Policy Division at BMWE and Andrea Solano Rendón, Head of the Unit for Regulatory Affairs, Competitiveness and Competition (UNCC) representing SE. The meeting also brought together key representatives from the German and the Mexican side.
Germany and Mexico underscored the strategic importance of their bilateral dialogue in promoting regulatory alignment, interoperability, and strengthening Quality Infrastructure (QI) as a foundation for competitiveness.
Andrea Genoveva Solano Rendón (Mexican Ministry of Economy) emphasized the value of resuming technical dialogue to set joint priorities toward 2026—particularly in QI digitalization, regulation, and emerging technologies. Christina Decker (BMWE) highlighted the geopolitical relevance of the partnership and reaffirmed Mexico’s role as Germany’s key trade partner in Latin America.
Both countries acknowledged Mexico’s progress, including the new QI Law, and identified shared priorities such as QI Digital, e-commerce, AI, circular economy, and electromobility. Harmonized regulatory frameworks in emerging areas were emphasized, with Germany’s technical expertise seen as a key asset.
Looking ahead, both sides confirmed their commitment to continue the dialogue, with plans for an Annual Meeting in 2025, where the Work Plan 2026 is expected to be signed.
