Focus on the future of quality infrastructure: Review our conference at BMWE in MayOn May 15, 2025, around 100 experts from politics, business, and academia met at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) in Berlin for the conference “Global Perspectives on Quality Infrastructure – A Key to a Competitive German Economy.” The key question: How can a modern, high-performing quality infrastructure help shape international trade to be fair, safe, and sustainable?
Boosting QI for German-Brazilian trade: BMWE and MDIC hold the Annual Meeting of the QI working group at the occasion of the German-Brazilian Economic MeetingIn mid-June 2025, a delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) participated at the German-Brazilian Economic Meeting in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil to advance an important component of international cooperation: Quality Infrastructure (QI). Starting in Salvador, a major trade and economic center in Brazil, continuing to the BRA capitol, Brasília, the trip brought together institutions, ministries, and companies to reinforce the German Brazilian QI Dialogue and jointly explore its future agenda priorities
Registration open: 10th Annual Meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality InfrastructureGermany and India have been working closely together for over a decade to strengthen quality infrastructure (QI) and facilitate trade through reduced technical barriers. Now, the partnership has reached a new milestone. On 16 July 2025, the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure will convene for its 10th Annual Meeting at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The event brings together high-level representatives from ministries, authorities, standardisation and accreditation bodies, industry associations, and companies from both countries. Shaping the Future of Indo-German Quality Infrastructure: Priorities Set for 10th Annual MeetingOn 30 April 2025, over 30 German stakeholders from industry associations and Quality Infrastructure (QI) bodies gathered for a key planning session ahead of the 10th annual meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure. Revitalizing the Indo-German QI DialogueHow can we ensure safer products, more sustainable supply chains, and reliable standards for the future? Germany and India are providing answers by relaunching their bilateral dialogue on Quality Infrastructure (QI). On 7 April 2025, Additional Secretary Mr. Bharat Khera (Ministry of Consumer Affairs, MoCA) and Deputy Director General Dr. Ole Janssen (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, BMWE) met virtually to renew their partnership under the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure. The meeting brought together high-level representatives from both countries – including BIS officials Mr. Chandan Bahl and Mr. Rajneesh Khosla, representatives from the German Embassy in New Delhi, and the GIZ GPQI team.
Save the Date: 13th Annual Sino-German Standardisation Cooperation Commission Meeting in Qingdao, ChinaWe are excited to announce that the next Sino-German Standardisation Cooperation Commission (SGSCC, in German: Deutsch-Chinesischen Kommission zur Zusammenarbeit in der Normung - DCKN) will take place from 11. – 14. November 2025 in Qingdao, China. As the key annual platform for Sino-German cooperation on standardisation, the SGSCC 2025 will once again bring together high-level representatives from government, industry, and technical organisations to discuss forward-looking topics and strengthen bilateral collaboration. With a shared focus on innovation and global impact, this year’s meeting aims to build on past successes and set new impulses for international standardisation. A Highlight of 2024: 12th Sino-German Standardisation Cooperation Commission Meeting in BonnAlready some time ago, but since this is our first newsletter, we would still like to remind you of a key highlight from last year: the 12th Annual Sino-German Standardisation Cooperation Commission (SGSCC, in German: Deutsch-Chinesischen Kommission zur Zusammenarbeit in der Normung - DCKN), which took place from 13. – 16. October 2024 in Bonn, Germany. The event brought together over 140 representatives from government, industry, and technical organisations to exchange ideas and foster cooperation on key standardisation topics such as electromobility, semiconductors, climate protection, intelligent vehicles, and Industry 4.0. With engaging discussions and expert insights across several working groups and a high-level plenary session, the meeting once again underlined the strategic relevance of the Sino-German partnership in shaping global standards. Germany and Mexico Reaffirm Commitment to Launch New Phase to Deepen Close Bilateral Cooperation on Quality Infrastructure: High Level Virtual MeetingOn Tuesday 10th June the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation aimed at regulatory harmonisation and the elimination of technical barriers to trade under the framework of the German-Mexican Dialogue on Quality Infrastructure. The session was chaired by Christina Decker, Director-General for Digital and Innovation Policy Division at BMWE and Andrea Solano Rendón, Head of the Unit for Regulatory Affairs, Competitiveness and Competition (UNCC) representing SE. The meeting also brought together key representatives from the German and the Mexican side.

About the GPQI ProjectThe Global Project on Quality Infrastructure (GPQI), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), has been advancing international cooperation since 2017 with key trade partners—India, Brazil, Mexico, China, and Indonesia. GPQI’s goal is to harmonize regulatory and technical trade conditions, reduce technical barriers, and promote a shared understanding of product safety and consumer protection. Through 69 joint initiatives, the project has successfully supported trade facilitation and strengthened Germany’s position in global markets. GPQI has now fully resumed activities in 2025 under new leadership, with dedicated teams in each of the five partner countries. The current project phase focuses on meeting the evolving needs of German businesses by fostering dialogue and collaboration with political partners, stakeholders, and industry players.
