Indo- German exchange on Artificial Intelligence (AI) policies and supporting standards

Dear Stakeholder,

The Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure is organising the Indo- German exchange on AI Policies and supporting standards and their role in supporting the development of ethical and responsible AI ecosystem on 24 March 2026 from 14:30 pm to 16:30 pm IST/10:00 am to 12:00 pm CET in New Delhi (hybrid format). The Working Group is jointly led by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD), Government of India.

The exchange will explore key topics such as:

  • Current developments of the EU AI Act & India’s national program for AI
  • Ongoing developments and priorities of AI standardisation with a focus on ethical aspects of AI
  • Possible areas of cooperation to facilitate standardisation at the international level in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42
  • Discussion on cooperation within ISO 42006 & ISO 42007
  • Agree on next steps for accelerating AI standardisation efforts

The recently concluded India AI Impact Summit 2026, held in New Delhi on 18–19 February, also emphasised the importance of ethical and responsible AI, which reinforces the global commitment to accessible, trustworthy, and equitable AI frameworks.

Organised under the framework of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure, the exchange will bring together:

  • Officials from BMWE , MoCAF&PD and other ministries
  • Representatives from standards bodies and quality infrastructure bodies (BIS, DIN, DKE, DAkkS)
  • Technical institutions and industry
