Artificial Intelligence: Strengthening Indo-German Collaboration for Ethical and Responsible AI

On 24 March 2026, the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure successfully convened the Indo-German Exchange on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in New Delhi and via virtual format, bringing together policymakers, standards organisations, and industry stakeholders from India and Germany. The exchange provided a timely platform to discuss the evolving role of AI in society and industry, and its implications for ethical, trustworthy, and standards-based AI ecosystems.
Key Outcomes of the Exchange
- A shared understanding of AI frameworks, including insights from the EU AI Act and India AI Mission, highlighting implications for ethical and responsible AI deployment
- Stronger alignment on AI standardisation efforts, with discussions on ongoing ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 initiatives in India and Germany, focusing on interoperability and ethical AI principles
- Exploration of AI applications in quality infrastructure, including accreditation, certification, and management system standards such as ISO/IEC 42006 and ISO/IEC 42007
- Identification of priority areas for bilateral cooperation, including AI standardisation, policy alignment, and engagement with industry stakeholders to promote responsible adoption
