Making Quality Infrastructure Work for Business – GPQI in Mexico
Mexico
From 19 to 23 January 2026, a delegation from the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie, led by Ole Janssen, visited Mexico for high-level meetings within the framework of the Mexican–German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure (QI). The delegation was warmly welcomed and accompanied by Andrea Genoveva Solano Rendón, Head of the Regulatory Competitiveness and Competition Unit at the Secretaría de Economía.
Exchange in Mexico City and Querétaro
The programme took place in Mexico City and Querétaro, bringing together representatives from government, industry, and quality infrastructure institutions in a variety of formats.
Roundtables hosted by the CAMEXA Cámara Mexicano-Alemana de Comercio provided a platform for German companies to share hands-on regulatory challenges and discuss practical solutions with Mexican counterparts.
A site visit to the Centro Nacional de Metrología (CENAM) in Querétaro focused on metrology, standardization and certification, as well as international alignment of Mexico’s QI system. In addition, technical dialogues addressed e-commerce and market surveillance, digitalization of quality infrastructure, the Digital Product Passport, and comparative perspectives on the QI systems in Mexico and Germany.
5th Annual Meeting of the Mexican–German Working Group
The highlight of the visit was the 5th Annual Meeting of the Mexican–German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure, co-chaired by Andrea Genoveva Solano Rendón and Ole Janssen. The meeting set key priorities for the next phase of cooperation:
- Adoption of the 2026–2027 Annual Work Plan
- Strengthening cooperation on digitalization of quality infrastructure, including the Digital Product Passport
- Reaffirming the commitment to reducing trade barriers and increasing regulatory predictability
- Closer alignment on international standards and emerging technology topics such as artificial intelligence
