🇲🇽 🤝🇩🇪 Making Quality Infrastructure Work for Business – GPQI in Mexico

From the 19th to the 23rd of January 2026, a delegation from the German Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, BMWE), led by Deputy Director-General Dr Ole Janssen, visited Mexico for high-level meetings within the Mexican-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure (QI). The delegation was warmly welcomed and accompanied by Mrs. Andrea Solano, Head of the regulatory competitiveness and competition Unit of the Secretariat of Economy (secretaria de Economía).

 

📍 Mexico City and Querétaro

Across two cities and multiple formats, the delegation engaged with representatives from government, industry, and QI institutions:

🔹 Roundtables hosted by the Mexican German Chamber of Commerce (CAMEXA), where German companies shared hands-on regulatory challenges

🔹 Exchange within a site visit to the National Metrology Center (CENAM) in Querétaro –focusing on standardization, certification, and international alignment  

🔹 Technical dialogues on e-commerce and market surveillance, QI digital, the Digital Product Pass (DPP) and the QI system in Mexico and Germany

 

🏛️ The highlight: the 5th Annual Meeting of the Mexican-German Working Group – co-chaired by Mrs Andrea Solano, Head of the regulatory competitiveness and competition Unit of the Mexican Ministry of economy, and Dr. Ole Janssen Deputy Director-General at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) – brought key priorities to the table:

 

✅ Adoption of the Annual workplan for 2026–27

✅ Boosting cooperation on digitalization in QI, including the Digital Product Passport

✅ Emphasizing commitment towards reducing trade barriers and increasing regulatory predictability

✅ Closer alignment on international standards and emerging tech topics like AI
