Ready for the future: Mexico Advances Industrial Digitalization with OPC UA Roadshow

Mexico

A major push toward industrial interoperability and smart manufacturing took place in Mexico with the successful completion of the roadshow “Prepared for the Future with OPC UA: Driving Mexican Industry through Interoperability and Smart Manufacturing.” The initiative, held from November 4 to 10, was jointly organized by the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) and the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy within the framework of the German–Mexican Dialogue on Quality Infrastructure.

The roadshow attracted over 180 participants, including representatives from leading Mexican, German, and international companies such as Bosch, ENGEL, WAGO, and Siemens, as well as officials from government institutions and higher education authorities. Notable attendees included the Secretary for Technology and Innovation of the State of Puebla, the National Center for Metrology, and the Undersecretary of Upper Secondary Education.

Four Strategic Stops Across Mexico

The event series brought discussions on industrial digitalization to key innovation hubs across the country:

  • Saltillo – November 4 | State Council of Science and Technology (COECYT)
  • Querétaro – November 6 | Polytechnic University of Querétaro
  • Puebla – November 10 | Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP)

Strengthening Industrial Interoperability Through OPC UA

Throughout the roadshow, experts emphasized the transformative role of OPC UA, a platform-independent communication standard that ensures secure, reliable data exchange across industrial automation systems. The technology plays a pivotal role in enabling connected production environments—an essential step for advancing Mexico’s competitiveness in global value chains.

Through keynote presentations, live demonstrations, and panel discussions, speakers—among them the Undersecretary of Upper Secondary Education—highlighted how OPC UA can enhance efficiency, adaptability, and integration across diverse manufacturing processes. Their contributions underscored a growing national commitment to industrial standardization and interoperability.

A Collaborative Milestone for Mexico’s Industrial Future

Beyond promoting OPC UA, the roadshow served as a platform for strengthening partnerships between industry, academia, and government. It fostered valuable dialogue and networking opportunities at a moment when Mexico is experiencing rapid economic growth and rising demand for advanced manufacturing solutions.
