Industry and cooperation drive the electromobility agenda in Mexico

Organised by GPQI and the AHK Mexico (CAMEXA), and broadcast via the CAMEXA Conecta webinar series, the working group on electromobility of the German-Mexican Dialogue on Quality Infrastructure presented two of the white papers developed on issues of standardization in this field. These events marked one of the final activities within the workstream on standardization in electromobility under the 2022 Work Plan governing the bilateral cooperation.

The first webinar, held on 16 July 2025, focused on the topic of ‘Regulation on Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicles’. It featured the participation of the General Directorate of Standards (DGN) of the Mexican Ministry of Economics, the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI), and Daimler. The webinar addressed regulatory advances in Mexico, the technological challenges for the adoption of heavy-duty electric vehicles, and the need for a regional strategic vision to strengthen competitiveness in North America. The second webinar, held on 10 September 2025, was entitled ‘Quality Infrastructure for Light Vehicle Electromobility: from international cooperation to industry experience’. Through presentations by GPQI and Bosch, the session explored the current state of the sector, mechanisms for integrating SMEs into the value chain, and recommendations for regulatory changes to facilitate growth in the sector. The webinars constitute a measure to further disseminate the recommendations developed by the electromobility working group. At the same time these exchanges and the publications serve as a basis for the continued bilateral cooperation between Mexico and Germany on technical barriers to trade in the electromobility sector.
